Sixty-nine miles north of the Big Apple lies the upstate town of Wappinger Falls, New York and home to one tall, skinny, skilled emcee – JAMIE DRASTIK. Jamie truly represents New York’s "state" of mind from his outlook on life to
his verses over beats.

Growing up on the influences from Poughkeepsie’s local music scene and the frequent hour and a half train ride to experience NYC’s vast music scene, Jamie’s perspective is instantly clear, intelligent & fresh.

After a few years on the grind, creating new music, ghost writing, and all around hustling – Jamie is seeing his hard work pay off and it’s only the beginning.

While applying the finishing touches to his Indie release ‘The Inevitable’ his track ‘Now Or Later’ has hit the airwaves across the country with little or no promotion. Listed on MySpace’s Top 100 indie artists, Jamie has ranked #13 among the independent artists with myspace spins of 6-10K a day and major radio stations spinning the track daily.

CWG: What's the music scene like in Poughkeepsie?

I guess its different, depending on the act. There is a lot of variety and major acts do go through the town. So you can go to an Eagles concert at the civic center one night, a Jim Jones show at a club another night, and a Gym Class Heroes concert another night.
As for the local scene, well to be honest it doesn't normally support too much local talent. Most people up here are haters. There are only a few venues that have supporting crowds. Most other venues crowds just want the national touring acts--and could not really care about the local scene.
Recently, I performed at Torches in Newburgh (15 minutes from Poughkeepsie) and the crowd response was amazing! Support was amazing! --also at Rok Bar in Liberty NY-- first part of performance....the crowd was "like whatever", then by halfway through they were into it.

CWG: What kind of MC's have you ghost-written for?

Well if I told you that wouldn't be too "ghostly" of me :)

CWG: You're blowing' up without sellin' out! Tell us a little about that.

Good music! People always say good music isn't enough, and it is somewhat true, its not enough when people don't hear it, if you can get people to hear the music should take care of most of the rest.

CWG: How did you promote yourself?

I work hard and I created a tight team! More hands pushing, the farther things can go.

CWG: How are you getting all the radio spins/Myspace plays without the aid of a major label?

Well a label would send you on a bunch of promo shows as a trade for spins...so I'm doing a ton of shows right now and building relationships at radio in every market. People seem to like my stuff, they respond to it, and the track keeps getting played.

CWG: Are there any plans for a full-length record in the near future?

Yes the record is called "The Inevitable."

Shout out to moodswing360 and shout out to B Roth you’ll see him on tour with me smoking a loooot of weed!
