In Los Angeles, most bands are really boring to see live... The Knives are not one of these bands! "Fuck yeah!" is the only way to describe their set at the Viper Room last night. The Knives took the stage amidst applause, fake smoke, and the smell of booze, and pummeled the audience for an hour straight.Since 2003, The Knives have been traveling around the country, with the likes of Fireball Ministry and CKY, leaving havok and broken-hearted girls in their wake. Blending the Stoner Rock anthems of Fu Manchu and Kyuss with post hardcore, this band not only managed to pack the Viper Room on a Thursday night, but kept the audience entertained with their high-energy live show.
Most line-up changes ruin a band's chemistry... definitely not the case with The Knives; it was The Knives' first show with ex-Queens Of The Stone Age bassist, Nick Olivieri. Nick had awesome chemistry with his new bandmates, appearing as if he'd been jamming with them for years.
Most guitar players aren't engaging... not the case with Brane, who in addition to filling the room with stoner rock fuzz, managed to rile up the audience between songs.
Most drummers are boring... but not Jonny, who spent the better part of the set beating his drums to death and swinging his white afro violently.
If The Knives come to your town, definitely go see them... unless you're into being bored!
