Album: Jon Dee Graham’s “Big Sweet Life”
Buy On:

It’s been almost four years since this album hit the shelves and you’ve probably never heard of it. It’s not a benefit that catches national headlines like FarmAid does, but that doesn’t make the cause any less worthy.
With interpretations of Jon Dee’s songs by some of Austin’s finest musicians, “Big Sweet Life” is a community effort to help raise money for Willie Graham, Jon Dee’s son.
Willie suffers from Legg Perthes, a childhood disease in which bone death occurs in the ball of the hip due to an interruption in blood flow, according to the National Osteonecrosis Foundation. To make matters worse, the Graham’s insurance company went bankrupt and Willie’s pre-existing condition makes him uninsurable.
The CD includes live performances by The Resentments, Ian McLagan,Steve Poltz, Bob Schneider, Alejandro Escovedo, Charlie Sexton, James McMurtry, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Matt The Electrician, The New Hot Damn, Jon Dee, Beaver Nelson, Kathy McCarty, and Walter Tragert .
The DVD portion was filmed on the rooftop of the New 8 building in downtown Austin and has performances by Patty Griffin, Ray Benson, Kelly Willis, Bruce Robison, David Garza, Darden Smith, Jud Newcomb, The Gourds, Jack Ingram, Jeff Klein, Elizabeth McQueen, and Terri Hendrix & Lloyd Maines.
The album is available through Jon Dee’s website, Texas Music Roundup and on Amazon.
