Blackmarket's
self-titled ep in stores today!

“That there is a modern rock band from Lake Havasu City, Arizona may strike some people as an anamoly. That there’s a really, really good modern rock band from Lake Havasu City, Arizona may strike some people as an impossibility. But it’s true — the guys in Blackmarket have been playing together since junior high, and I consider them one of the most promising bands in the state right now.” - Niki D’Andrea, Phoenix New Times

Blackmarket’s new self-titled EP on No Office Records is available online and in select stores today.

Teaming up with Sean Slade (Radiohead, Dinosaur Jr., Hole) and Matthew Ellard (Morphine, Weezer, Elliott Smith), the month-long recording process features songs that have been in the works for years. Inspired by The Beatles, Elliott Smith and David Bowie and drawing upon personal experiences, Blackmarket brings a refreshing sound to the music industry.

The EP traces Blackmarket’s journey over the last few years to the band they are today. Each song distinctly tells a story and pulls the listener into the lives of Blackmarket, experiencing their excitement, disappointment, anxiety, loves and losses. The opening track “Magic Tricks” with its infectious guitar riffs gives an inside look at the record industry. The acoustic-driven “White Lie” is a raw, open song dealing with loneliness. These two songs, along with the anthemic “Sheila,” “Bad Call” and “Talk Too Much,” give Blackmarket fans a glimpse of what to expect in 2008.

Blackmarket has also seen significant success in Japan where they have released an EP and LP on FMAC/Rough Trade Japan. They also had a sold out show in Tokyo this past December, and the band has been invited to play the FujiRock Festival in July.

Praise for Blackmarket
“For musicians who claim their story ‘isn’t much different from any else’s’ Blackmarket’s ability to elevate nearly every song to the level of anthem separates them from the pack.” - Flavorpill LA

“Built around a thriving bass line and a pummeling smatter of hard-charging guitar chords, the record roars from start to finish with energy and passion, which is served best at loud volumes in the summer heat.” - Metro Spirit (Augusta, GA)

Listen: "Naughty Corner"

While writing, touring and playing guitar in Denver, CO based band Vaux, Adam Tymn kept busy, and somewhat sane by writing what would eventually become some of the first Ride The Boogie songs. He kept these songs and ideas close to him until he met former label mate and Places to Park drummer Glenn Pinson. While on the same Warped tour they recorded one of many demos of "Mustache Riders " on the John Lennon Recording bus. "I became friends with the guys on the Lennon bus, which had a full studio setup, electric drum kit. amps, keys..." recalls Tymn. It was that recording that caught the ears of fellow road slaves Kevin Burwick and Billy Pena. Their band, Arkham was on the same label that boasted Adams' and Glenns' bands. With all future Boogie members assuming the same role in different bands, they went their separate ways but always kept in touch by writing and creating new Boogie songs.

For the new self-titled disc, Ride The Boogie all got together at the same time, in the same state, in the same studio, which they’d never done before, and, at producer/engineer Troolines’ insistence, got tens days of work done in five days.

It’s all there, black and white and every other color of the rainbow. Now close your eyes and listen.

What Others Are Saying...
“...don’t expect all the songs to sound the same (which is almost always the case with stoner rock bands). These guys are a lot more inventive than that...tossing in various oddities that are hard to describe and/or interpret. This stream-of-consciousness album requires several spins to sink in. Oddball cuts like ‘Naughty Corner’ and ‘Miss Perfect’ are strangely melodic and peculiar. Strangely appealing...” - BabySue

“...it’s original and it’s as rock and roll as anything can be. Anti-cat songs, killing cold-hearted businessmen, and a girl named Louise ‘slurpin’ and burpin’, chewin’ and chirpin,’ what doesn’t this album have? That’s not a rhetorical question, the answer is nothing.”-Jersey Beat

Some Info On the Band:

When Andrew Spitser quit his job, broke up with his girlfriend, and moved back in with his parents to go to law school, he thought he was done playing music. But somewhere along the way, those plans changed.

First, he found himself in the possession of some home recording equipment. Next, he found himself alone, late at night in the bathroom of his childhood home, cigarette dangling on the edge of the sink, singing a new batch of songs quietly into a makeshift reverb chamber (the shower).

Then he met the woman he'd soon marry. Kate was not only a classical pianist but had the voice of an angel. So when Kenny Kupers showed up in the same law school class, it was already done. They were a band. They called up bassist Martin Avelar, who'd met Andrew as a student when Andrew was teaching high school, and they recruited Houston native Seamus Simpson to play guitar.
