Their origins are a mystery, or at least mysteriously written, the band is an anomaly of modern Stoner Rock… Think Fu Manchu with a sense of humor, rolled up and smoked with a little bit of Violent Femmes and Quicksand; this multi-rooted band hammers out 11 spectacular tracks on their Self-Titled debut.
“Moustache Riders,” a song about finding a wild, drug-infused orgy in the desert in which the men are forced to “swallow their pride” and give the demonic vixens a moustache ride, is the first song the band jammed on together, and is one of the album’s strongest songs.
“All Night,” sticks out from the other songs; it’s about a guy on a booty-call, and has that Midwestern, Fueled By Ramen sound. “She says ‘Come over,’ I say ‘What the fuck? All right!’”
The amazing thing about the group is the diversity of the songs, every one different from the next: “Big Ass Bass” is a Stoner Rock opus, reminiscent of Queens of the Stone Age at their peak; as is “Flat Out First Gear” and “D is For Chet.”
The heavy songs are interspersed with sweet-to-the-ear cerebral ballads like “Miss Perfect” and “Skipped Through A Towne.”
They even take an amazing delve into the forbidden bowels of Alt-Country, as heard on “Naughty Corner” and “Hop Along Chastity.”
I recommend buying this album…. From wherever you can find it!
